Course overview
Course Objective The course Accessibility in UX Design addresses the design and evaluation of digital products with consideration for accessibility. It focuses on requirements, methods, and guidelines for usable interaction for individuals with varying abilities. Concepts of User Experience, standards such as WCAG, and their application in design and prototyping processes are discussed. The goal is to systematically integrate accessibility into the entire UX workflow from research through conception to testing. Content Introduction to Accessibility in UX: Definition clarification, user groups, usage scenarios, assistive technologies, and legal and normative frameworks (including WCAG, EN 301 549). Requirements Analysis and Research: Gathering usage requirements, personas with disability dimensions, user journeys, contextual observations, and deriving accessibility criteria. Interaction and Interface Design: Information architecture, color construction and contrast, typography and readability, focus management, keyboard navigation, error tolerance, forms, and component libraries. Prototyping and Testing: Creating accessible wireframes and prototypes, selecting testing methods, moderating inclusive usability tests, evaluation with heuristics and WCAG success criteria. Technical Implementation and Quality Assurance: Semantic structures, alternative texts, ARIA roles, responsive behavior, media captioning and transcripts, code validation, and regression checks. Measurement and Documentation: Selecting metrics, audit checklists, report formats, prioritizing actions, and handover to development and operations. Learning Objectives - Identification of user requirements for accessibility using research methods and deriving concrete criteria - Application of WCAG success criteria to wireframes, flows, and UI components in design artifacts - Creation of accessible prototypes including keyboard navigation, focus order, and alternative texts - Conducting accessibility tests with heuristics, checklists, and user tests with assistive technologies - Evaluation of interfaces regarding contrast, readability, error messages, and interaction feedback - Integration of accessibility requirements into handover processes to development and continuous quality assurance Career Prospects The course content is applicable in fields such as UX design and interaction design with a focus on accessible design of interfaces and flows. Typical areas of activity include usability and accessibility testing, including planning, conducting, and documenting audits. The course addresses content for roles such as product design in interdisciplinary teams, where requirements, prototypes, and specifications are created and maintained with a focus on accessibility. Summary The course Accessibility in UX Design covers methods, guidelines, and processes for accessible design of digital products along the UX workflow. This training addresses analysis, design, prototyping, testing, and quality…
