Course overview

Assistance activities in nursing homes and hospitals range from morning support with personal hygiene to accompanying patients to examinations and observing the progression of illnesses. Both fields follow their own processes but share the same nursing fundamentals. The training presents the requirements of both settings side by side and highlights the differences in pace, documentation, and collaboration. Course Content 1. Illnesses and Patient Observation Common illnesses in the elderly such as dementia, diabetes, heart failure, and stroke Observation of skin, breathing, consciousness, and excretion Monitoring vital signs and reporting abnormal values Recognizing pain expressions and reporting them to the nursing professional Understanding the effects and side effects of common medication groups 2. Assistance in Clinical Ward Operations Preparation and accompaniment of examinations and rounds Handling beds, aids, and equipment in daily ward operations Supporting admissions, transfers, and discharges Material management, bed preparation, and room setup Accompanying patients to diagnostics, therapy, and functional departments 3. Basic Care and Prophylaxis in Both Fields Personal hygiene, nutritional support, and excretion management Pressure ulcer, thrombosis, and pneumonia prophylaxis according to the expert standards of DNQP Kinesiology during transfers between bed, chair, and examination table Contracture prophylaxis, exercise, and position changes Early recognition of malnutrition and dehydration 4. Infection Control, Documentation, and Interfaces Standard hygiene, protective equipment, and handling isolation rooms Nursing documentation in hospitals and facilities, structural model, and structured information collection Collaboration with nursing professionals, functional areas, and therapy services Confidentiality, data protection, and handling patient data Handovers, short reports, and reporting pathways in case of changes 5. Action in Emergencies and Acute Deteriorations Emergency chain, alerting, and preparation of the emergency cart Basic resuscitation measures and use of the defibrillator Behavior in case of falls, bleeding, shortness of breath, and consciousness disturbances Accompanying the dying and dealing with one's own experiences Professional Relevance Assistance in hospital and rehabilitation clinic wards Collaboration in stationary elderly care facilities Support in day care and short-term care Connection to the generalist nursing training Employment in day clinics and outpatient care forms
