Course overview
Course Objective The Accessible UX Design course covers the conception, design, and evaluation of user-friendly and accessible digital products. The focus is on requirements from UX design, interaction design, and web development, taking into account accessibility standards. The goal is to impart methods for implementing barrier-free user interfaces according to recognized guidelines. This includes deriving requirements, conducting tests with assistive technologies, and documenting the results in the design process. Content Introduction to accessibility in the UX context with clarification of terms, user groups, dimensions of disability, and impacts on interaction, navigation, and information architecture Standards, guidelines, and legal frameworks, including WCAG, EN 301 549, BITV, as well as requirements for conformity levels and proof of compliance Design and interaction principles: perceivability, operability, understandability, robustness; color and contrast design, typography, focus management, keyboard navigation, error messages, and forms Implementation in design and development practices: pattern libraries, design tokens, semantic structure, ARIA roles, alternative texts, media captioning, and transcripts User research and testing: accessible research setups, prototyping, screen reader checks, keyboard and zoom tests, heuristics, as well as evaluation and derivation of measures Documentation and quality assurance: accessibility statements, issue tracking, acceptance processes, handover to development, and monitoring in operation Learning Objectives - Identification of barriers in navigation, forms, and interaction patterns based on defined criteria - Application of WCAG success criteria to wireframes and prototypes to derive specific adjustments - Creation of semantic structures and alternative texts as well as conducting keyboard and screen reader tests - Development of accessible components in design systems including focus management and state representation - Evaluation of interfaces using heuristics and documentation of results in accessibility reports - Implementation of processes for continuous quality assurance with checklists and acceptance protocols Career Prospects The course content is applicable in professional fields such as UX and UI design with a focus on accessible user interfaces. Typical areas of activity include accessibility consulting and quality assurance in digital projects related to compliance with guidelines. The course addresses content for activities such as frontend development focusing on semantic markup, ARIA, and component-based design systems. Other areas of application include product management with responsibility for requirement definition, acceptance, and documentation of accessibility. Summary The Accessible UX Design course addresses the design, implementation, and testing of accessible digital products based on recognized guidelines. This training covers design principles, technical implementatio…
