Certification for Crane Operators (Bridge, Portal, Column, and Swing Cranes)

Course overview

This course provides the necessary technical and legal knowledge for the safe and trouble-free movement of loads using bridge, portal, column, and swing cranes. Theoretical foundations will be taught regarding structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic relationships, as well as the requirements of relevant accident prevention regulations and occupational safety regulations. In the practical training, participants will learn to operate bridge, portal, column, and swing cranes safely and professionally. The course is based on the current German statutory accident insurance DGUV principle 309-003 "Selection, Instruction, and Certification of Crane Operators" and the DGUV regulation 52 "Cranes". The course includes the following content: Theory: Crane technology Types of cranes Basic physical knowledge Machine construction groups Safety devices and brakes Load capacity and support Driving methods of the crane operator Inspections before starting work Safe attachment of loads Practice: Hoisting and lowering loads Securing stable center of gravity positions Catching swinging loads Coordinating multiple drives Safe attachment of loads Load limiters and load moment limiters For successful participation in the course, a language level of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is recommended. Upon request, we reserve the right to demand corresponding proof. Completion: After passing the theoretical exam (in technical language German), the crane operator will receive a personal crane operator's license. Additional note: According to DGUV regulation 1 (§ 4 Abs. 1), certifications for cranes must be refreshed annually through an instruction that includes current safety regulations, technical developments, and practical knowledge. The refreshment takes place in the form of short training sessions or instructions by qualified persons (also possible within the company), tailored to the risk assessment and operational requirements. - Status: 06.10.2026
