Course overview
Course Objective The Introduction to UX Design course addresses the fundamentals and methods of user-centered design for digital products. It covers terms, processes, and artifacts of UX design in the context of product development and human-computer interaction. The goal is to integrate research, information architecture, interaction design, and prototyping into a cohesive design process. The content connects conceptual aspects with implementation phases and also considers evaluation methods. Content Introduction and Process Framework: Distinction between UX, UI, and Service Design, roles in the product team, Double-Diamond approach, handovers to development, and documentation of design decisions User and Context Analysis: Gathering requirements through interviews and observations, formulating use cases, creating personas and scenarios, deriving requirements for interaction and content Information Architecture and Flow Design: Structuring content, navigation concepts, user flows, task flows, sitemaps, as well as naming and labeling Interaction Design and Wireframing: Designing layouts, components, and states, wireframes for core paths, microinteractions, state models, and error messages Prototyping and Testing Methods: Low to high-fidelity prototypes, click dummies, moderation of usability tests, evaluation of qualitative findings, and deriving actions Documentation and Collaboration: Basics of design systems, specifications for development, versioning of designs, hand-off, and feedback cycles Learning Objectives - Analyze user needs and usage contexts based on interviews, observations, and scenarios - Create personas, use cases, and user flows to describe central tasks and processes - Conceptualize and develop information architectures including navigation, sitemaps, and labeling - Develop wireframes and interaction patterns for core functions and state changes - Conduct usability tests with documentation, evaluation, and deriving concrete adjustments - Integrate prototypes and specifications into development processes through hand-off and design system components Career Prospects The course content is applicable in fields such as UX Designer, UX Researcher, and UI/UX Designer, particularly in the conception and validation of digital applications. Typical areas of activity include structured requirement gathering, developing information architectures, creating wireframes and prototypes, as well as planning and conducting usability tests. The course addresses content for roles such as product design in collaboration with product management and development. Summary The Introduction to UX Design course covers fundamental methods of user-centered design from requirement analysis to information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, and testing. This training addresses activities relevant to roles such as UX Designer or UX Researcher. The conclusion of the content is geared towards application in product-related tasks.
