Course overview

Graphic Design: Fundamentals of Design, Typography, and Corporate Design. This graphic designer training focuses on the foundational aspects of graphic design: color theory, gestalt theory, and perception theory. From these foundations, you will develop your own designs, present initial ideas as hand-drawn sketches, and then implement them on a Windows PC using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. For those transitioning into graphic design, all design fundamentals are built from the ground up. You will learn to: • Use colors, shapes, proportions, and compositions according to gestalt and perception principles • Develop ideas with design techniques and sketches and present them to clients • Select typography and font design for print and digital media purposefully • Conceptualize printed materials and categorize typesetting, repro, and printing techniques • Derive a corporate design with a logo and business documents from corporate identity • Implement designs on a Windows PC using Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Understanding design, then implementing it. The entry into graphic design begins with perception psychology: How do colors, proportions, and compositions affect viewers, and what gestalt laws determine the readability of a design? Building on this, you will learn about the professional fields in graphic design and practice creativity and design techniques. Typography forms its own strand, from font selection to design grids. In photo design, the focus is on subject choice, light, space, and perspective. The technical implementation follows on a Windows PC: image editing and montage in Photoshop, digital drawing with paths and masks in Illustrator, layout of ads, posters, and publications in InDesign.
