Course overview

People with dementia require empathetic, individualized, and professional care. This training provides foundational knowledge about dementia diseases, communication, activation, and nutrition, as well as support for accompanying individuals in the final stages of life, helping you to professionally support people with dementia and their relatives. Content: Understanding types of dementia, symptoms, disease progression, and diagnostic fundamentals Learning medical, nursing, and communicative specifics in dealing with people with dementia Applying verbal and non-verbal communication as well as de-escalating conversation techniques Recognizing challenging behavior and responding appropriately Involving relatives in care and providing supportive assistance Managing nutrition in dementia and handling refusal of food and drink Applying validation, integrative validation, and other person-centered care approaches Planning activation offers and promoting independence, participation, and quality of life Culturally sensitive support for individuals and relatives in the final stages of life, as well as learning the fundamentals of palliative care Providing care for deceased individuals while considering hygiene, legal, and documentation-related requirements Perspectives: These competencies are particularly in demand in inpatient and outpatient care facilities, day and short-term care facilities, hospitals, hospices, and other areas of elderly and health care.
