Course overview
Small and medium-sized enterprises need AI solutions that work without their own data department. This training prepares participants for the role of AI Manager in SMEs: finding the right use cases with limited resources, implementing them pragmatically, and involving employees from the start. Examples and exercises are based on typical situations in smaller and medium-sized businesses. Realistic Entry with Limited Resources In SMEs, it's not about the biggest solution, but the one that works in everyday life. - Evaluate use cases based on effort, benefit, and feasibility - Start with a few well-chosen projects instead of a large initiative - Utilize existing tools and data sources before acquiring new ones Implementation without an In-House IT Team In SMEs, there is rarely a specialized department for AI; responsibility lies with a few individuals who are fully occupied with daily business. - Tailor projects so they can be managed alongside regular operations with existing staff - Appoint a responsible person with a clear time budget instead of a project committee - Use external service providers strategically to fill gaps and manage them on equal footing, without creating dependencies - Integrate results into existing processes instead of creating parallel structures Involving Employees in Small Businesses Where everyone knows each other, trust is established faster than any concept. - Demonstrate benefits directly related to the tasks of individual employees instead of in presentations - Address concerns in personal conversations, especially with long-term employees - Build individual key persons as internal points of contact instead of broad programs - Openly discuss economic pressure: what AI should achieve and what it should not Implementing Data Protection and Rules Pragmatically - Make GDPR requirements manageable without a legal apparatus, with clear rules of thumb for everyday use - Establish simple, binding usage rules for AI tools - Transfer the basics of the EU AI Act to the specific situation Securing and Expanding Benefits - Honestly evaluate the impact of initial projects and learn from them - Gradually transfer successful approaches to other areas Keeping an Eye on Economic Viability In SMEs, every project must quickly justify itself. - Realistically calculate costs for tools, time investment, and support - Make benefits tangible in terms of time saved and improved quality - Establish criteria for discontinuation before a project becomes a bottomless pit - Prepare investment decisions with simple comparative calculations Participants learn to introduce AI in SMEs with healthy pragmatism: suitable for the size of the company, supported by their own people, and with measurable benefits.
