Course overview

This training course covers the design fundamentals of media design and their application to digital surfaces. The focus is on composition, image design, and typography: how to structure an image crop, how a grid organizes a page, and how font, color, and white space guide the viewer's attention. What you will learn Image composition and layout using the rule of thirds, guiding the viewer's eye, and designing image crops Creating design grids and column layouts for pages and surfaces Evaluating typography: font combinations, font size, letter spacing, and line height Applying color theory and developing color harmonies through the color wheel and contrasts Reviewing, cropping, and preparing image material for screen output Justifying design decisions in drafts and demonstrating them in prototypes Structuring content in content design and integrating it with image design Thematic Connections Composition is at the core. A design arranges areas, images, and text in such a way that the eye follows a sequence. This is ensured by grids and white space, contrasts in size and color, as well as typography that makes hierarchies visible. Digital media design incorporates these rules into the interface: buttons, cards, and navigation bars follow the same image structure as a poster, with the addition of states and screen sizes. In Figma, this results in designs and clickable prototypes that can be tested with users; observations feed back into revised layouts. Image editing and the choice of image formats complete the production process.
