Palliative Care Nursing Specialist (DGP)

Course overview

Certified by the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP), Palliative Care is a comprehensive nursing and care concept for seriously ill and dying individuals. The focus is on the individual physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the affected individuals and their caregivers. The emphasis of care and support is on maintaining and improving the quality of life. In this further training, you will deepen your knowledge and skills in areas such as life and death accompaniment, grief work and support, modern pain management, nursing and medical options for symptom control, fundamentals of psychology and communication, multiprofessional teamwork, religious and spiritual foundations, and coping with stress and psychological burdens. The program also includes a basic course in Basic Stimulation focusing on the care and support of the dying, as well as aromatherapy care and a seminar on port catheter care. Additionally, optional supervision is offered to solidify the new role as a Palliative Care Nursing Specialist. The course complies with the legal requirements of § 39a of the SGB V and concludes in the summer of 2027 with the awarding of the certificate from the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP) and the IN VIA Academy.
