Presenting in English

Course overview

Successful presentations already require a high level of competence and experience from the presenters in their native language. However, when the presentation is to be held in English, nervousness and concerns about finding the right words further complicate the task. In this workshop, participants will learn the key factors for effective presenting and have the opportunity to deliver their own presentations under the supervision of an experienced coach (native speaker) and train their presentation skills. Goal: The goal of the workshop is to collaboratively develop the key factors for effective presentations. Along with boosting self-confidence, participants will learn to express themselves clearly and understandably in a way that resonates with the audience. The clarity and focus of the message will be enhanced through the use of intelligent English vocabulary. Contents of the two-day seminar: Key factors for effective presentations Speaking in front of an audience - Strategies to overcome nervousness, develop stage presence and confidence, positive thinking Understanding the audience - Necessary adjustments regarding the prior knowledge, professional and cultural background of the audience Preparation - Awareness of the goal and intended message of the presentation, practice and rehearsal Starting with conviction - The impact of stories and anecdotes Presentation content - The perfect mix of numbers, facts, and narrative, the right handling of multimedia and technology Presentation tips and avoiding common pitfalls - Further developing one's own presentation skills Q&A Session - Dealing with unexpected questions or critical comments Linguistic aspects - Useful and intelligent vocabulary, phrases, and grammar During the seminar, each participant will deliver a 15-minute presentation on a self-chosen topic.
