Course overview

Telecommunication networks today transport voice, data, and hosted services equally. The course provides system administrators with the fundamentals of telecommunication technology, the use of cloud services, and the associated information security. Telecommunication Technology Understand network layers from the subscriber line to the backbone of a provider Compare fiber optics, DSL, mobile communications, and 5G as access technologies Classify VoIP, SIP, and Unified Communications within the company Measure quality characteristics such as latency, jitter, and packet loss Cloud Services Provide telephony and collaboration services from the cloud Plan network connectivity to platform providers with sufficient bandwidth Set up virtual networks and connections to the site Evaluate availability and costs of hosted communication services Information Security Recognize threats to telephony and communication services such as toll fraud Encrypt voice and data connections with TLS and SRTP Secure access to management portals with multi-factor authentication Establish security policies for communication systems Operation and Administration Monitor telecommunication systems and cloud services Troubleshoot issues with voice and data connections Manage phone numbers, users, and end devices centrally in a management interface Plan a secure communication solution for a location You will understand modern telecommunication and be able to administer communication services securely.
