Course overview

In this course, you will learn how to create websites using WordPress while mastering the source code behind the interface. HTML provides the structure, CSS the appearance, and WordPress the platform where both come together. The goal is to create a website whose design you control through your own markup and stylesheets, rather than relying on the default settings of a theme. Steps to your own WordPress website Install WordPress, set the homepage, and create a menu structure Select a theme, customize it in the Customizer, and extend it with a child theme Create pages and posts in the Gutenberg editor and check their HTML markup in the editor Select plugins and assess their impact on layout and presentation Identify errors in the HTML code and mark up content correctly Apply your own rules to existing theme elements using CSS selectors Trace display issues using the developer tools in the browser From Markup to Finished Layout The starting point is the HTML code: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, links, and embedded media receive their markup before stylesheets assign them colors, spacing, and fonts. With HTML and CSS knowledge, you can specifically intervene in this output: you assign your own classes, correct spacing, swap fonts, and adjust layouts for smaller screens without damaging the theme. Through the child theme, your customizations remain separate from the original theme. This way, you will learn to create websites from the first markup to the finished layout, whether it's a blog, corporate presence, or landing page. You will get to know WordPress not just as an interface: the Gutenberg editor, child theme, and the browser's developer tools form the toolkit that brings together WordPress, HTML, and CSS.
