Course overview

Wounds can arise from a variety of causes. These causes and other factors often prevent the healing of acute wounds, leading to the development of chronic wounds. Affected individuals experience significant limitations in their quality of life due to chronic wounds. The prolonged existence of the wound results in restrictions and burdens not only for the affected person but also for their relatives and caregivers. Chronic wounds also pose problems for caregivers in almost all areas of nursing care. In recent years, an overwhelming number of specialized products and services have been developed for the care and support of people with chronic wounds. Unfortunately, there is often uncoordinated application. This frequently results in unnecessarily long healing processes, unnecessary costs, and poor quality of care. These deficiencies do not stem from the individual products or the execution of medical nursing actions. They are rooted in the often inadequate, insufficient, and nonsensical selection and combination of care products and options. Participants will learn about the complexity of caring for people with chronic wounds using the examples of chronic wounds documented in the expert standard: pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers. They will be provided with the necessary expertise and structured approach for specific care. They will reflect on their own role and understand the importance of a networked interprofessional approach. Completion (after passing the examination parts): Wound Expert ICW e.V., the certificate is valid for 5 years. Performance assessments: Written examination (90 minutes) 16-hour observation Preparation of a thesis (5 pages) within 12 weeks after the written examination.
