Describe the gap precisely
Compare your qualification and work history with current role requirements. Separate skills you can demonstrate from skills that are missing. For example, an office qualification may already show client work and reporting while a data role still requires SQL, data modelling and portfolio evidence.
Choose an adjacent target where possible
An adjacent move often uses existing experience more convincingly than a complete restart. A designer adding product research or a technician adding cloud skills can explain both the transferable base and the new requirement. A larger change can also work, but it needs a fuller route into the occupation.
Test the course against the evidence
- Does the curriculum cover the missing skills?
- Are prerequisites realistic for your starting point?
- Will you complete practical work that proves the new capability?
- Does the timetable allow reliable attendance?
Keep the argument practical
Bring a CV, selected vacancies and the course curriculum to the consultation. Explain why the course responds to a current barrier. Do not frame it as a reward for having studied before or as a promise of employment.
