Career rolesSoftware development is not one uniform job. Frontend, backend and full stack work overlap but concentrate on different layers of a product. Start with the layer that fits the problems you enjoy, then broaden once you have a strong practical base.
Frontend: interfaces and user experience
Frontend developers build the parts people use in a browser or app. They work with layout, interaction, accessibility and client-side state. A useful first project shows a responsive interface, clear behaviour and attention to users rather than only a visually polished screen.
Backend: data and system logic
Backend developers build services, APIs, data access and application logic. They need to think about reliability, permissions and how systems behave when data is incomplete. A first project can expose a small API with tests and a clear data model.
Full stack: connect both layers
Full stack work connects interface and backend. It is useful when you enjoy the complete path from user action to stored data. Beginners should still build depth in one layer first, otherwise a short course can produce surface familiarity without strong evidence.
