FundingAZAV is important when you are considering a Bildungsgutschein, but it is often checked too loosely. A provider's general claim of certification is not the same as confirmation that the exact course, cohort and delivery format can be used for the funding route you are discussing. Verification protects you from choosing a course title first and discovering a mismatch only after the consultation. It also helps you ask better questions about the curriculum, schedule and admission process.
Check the provider and the exact measure
AZAV is the German framework for accreditation and approval in employment promotion. In practice, distinguish the provider from the individual measure. Ask the provider to identify the course by its exact name and measure number, not only by a programme family or marketing page. Then ask whether that exact offer is currently approved for the funding route you intend to use. Keep the written reply with the curriculum.
A useful answer names the provider, measure number, start date, duration, weekly timetable, format and location. If any of these changes, check again. A new cohort may have a different timetable. An online version may not be the same measure as a classroom version. This does not mean the alternative is unsuitable. It means you should not assume that an approval transfers without confirmation.
Compare the curriculum with your occupational goal
After the formal check, read the modules. Start with a target role and a small sample of current vacancies. Mark the skills that repeat across them. Then match those skills to the course. Look for practical work, assessed outputs and the level of the material. A vague list of fashionable tools is weaker than a course that explains what participants can actually do by the end.
