Course overview

Course Objective The Fundamentals of UX Design course introduces concepts, methods, and processes of user-centered product development. It covers approaches for identifying user requirements and designing interactive interfaces in the context of digital applications. The goal is to position UX within human-computer interaction and prepare for the structured application of common UX artifacts. The course addresses the connection between research, information architecture, interaction design, and evaluation. Content Introduction to UX and HCI: Distinction between UX, UI, and usability, roles and processes in the product team, Double-Diamond model, and documentation of requirements. User and Context Research: Conducting stakeholder interviews, creating personas and scenarios, deriving use cases and user stories including acceptance criteria. Structure and Navigation: Information architecture, card sorting, user flows and task models, creating sitemaps and flowcharts to represent navigation logic. Interaction and Interface Design: Wireframes in low to mid-fidelity, pattern libraries, layout grids, states and feedback, basics of accessibility, and micro-interactions. Prototyping and Testing: Building clickable prototypes, planning and conducting usability tests, evaluating qualitative and quantitative findings, and iteration. Measurement and Collaboration: Metrics such as SUS and NPS, heuristic evaluation, handover to development using design specifications, versioning, and hand-off workflows. Learning Objectives - Analyze user requirements based on interviews, personas, and use cases - Distinguish between UX, UI, and usability terms as well as associated roles and processes - Create information architectures, user flows, and wireframes for defined use cases - Apply prototyping methods to represent interactions and states - Conduct usability tests including test planning, moderation, and documentation of results - Evaluate interface designs using heuristics and UX metrics and integrate findings into iterations Career Prospects The course content is applicable in fields such as UX Designer, UI/UX Designer, or Product Designer with a focus on interaction and interface design. Typical areas of work also include UX research with a focus on user and context analysis as well as usability testing. The course addresses content for activities such as requirements gathering, prototyping, and collaboration with development teams. Summary The Fundamentals of UX Design course covers concepts, methods, and processes of user-centered design of digital products. This training provides knowledge in research, structuring, interaction design, prototyping, and testing methods. The content relates to activities in UX design, UX research, and product-related roles.
