Course overview

Course Objective The UX Research Starter Workshop introduces methods and processes of user-centered product development. It covers the planning, execution, and evaluation of user research in the context of UX design and product management. The course addresses the collection of qualitative and quantitative data and their derivation into requirements for interaction concepts. The focus is on practical processes along the research cycle from question formulation to result documentation. Content Integration of UX research into the product development process with clarification of roles, interfaces to UX design, product management, and development, as well as the definition of research questions and hypotheses. Planning of studies including the selection of methods such as interviews, observations, surveys, and usability tests, sample definition, recruitment and consent, and handling of data protection. Conducting data collection with guideline creation, test setup, documentation, moderation techniques, and remote setups, as well as documentation of the execution. Evaluation and synthesis through transcription, coding, affinity diagrams, creation of personas, scenarios, and user journeys, as well as prioritization of findings. Transfer to product work by deriving testable requirements, creating findings reports, presentations for stakeholders, and handover to design and development teams. Basics of measuring usage and experience, selecting simple metrics, observing interactions, and planning iterative follow-up tests to verify assumptions.
