Why IT is the top-funded reskilling target
The Bundesagentur für Arbeit lists multiple IT roles as shortage occupations year after year. That's the single strongest signal a case worker looks for when approving a Bildungsgutschein.
Beyond that, IT hiring is skill-first, not degree-first. A certificate from a serious AZAV-zertifizierter provider plus a project portfolio can outweigh an unrelated Bachelor's degree — which makes reskilling paths short and effective.
The five fundable IT specialisations
Full-Stack Web Development (React, Node.js, TypeScript, Postgres): 6–9 months, entry salary €50.000–60.000, strongest hiring in SaaS and consultancy.
DevOps & Cloud (AWS or Azure certifications, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform): 4–8 months, entry salary €55.000–70.000, extremely high demand.
Cybersecurity (SOC analyst, penetration tester, ISO 27001): 6–12 months, entry salary €55.000–70.000, particularly strong in banking and public sector.

How to pick between them
Match to your background. Career changer with commercial experience → SAP consulting or business analyst. Technical hobbyist → Full-Stack or DevOps. Detail-oriented and risk-aware → Cybersecurity or system admin.
Match to your region. Munich and Frankfurt: banking and SAP. Berlin and Hamburg: SaaS and Full-Stack. NRW and Stuttgart: industrial/manufacturing IT, SAP and cloud.
Match to your time horizon. If you need income within 4 months, IT Support. Otherwise pick the higher-paying path.
